News From Shofar Foundation
In support of our aid-collection work, Shofar Foundation runs a prayer network, an annual conference and tours to the Former Soviet Union.
Since our last newsletter it has been a busy time with a truck going out loaded with boxes of aid on 24 pallets each with between 28 & 32 boxes on. The quality received has been outstanding and we do thank everyone who has driven from other parts of the UK to deliver, to those who regularly send via postal delivery and people who call at the office and containers with aid, for without your contributions we would not be able to help the Jewish people living in poverty in Eastern Europe. Next truck planned for September 2006.
ISRAEL PROJECT
It is possible to help many Holocaust survivors living below the poverty line and a new work has been started by our partners Chevra International helping these families with monthly life saving food parcels. One food parcel costs about £10. It is hoped as finance is released to increase the numbers receiving food. Can you help us? These people have already lived through the horrors of human inhumanity. We need to do more, there are tens of thousands needing food and help.
Chevra also have established accommodation in Israel to help with the elderly, who are often frightened, lonely and scared but we want to help them live out their days with comfort, peace and hopefully some joy not to continue living in the poverty they have left behind in the FSU. But this also takes finance - We need your help.

ALIYAH
Jewish people living in the former Soviet Union have had a very difficult life of persecution and deprivation. For a Jew, aliyah (the right of every Jew to return to Israel, their ancient homeland as an immediate citizen) is a dream and a hope of a better life, of course there is unrest and disruption in the region, but it is always a hope. There has been a great flood and now there is a small trickle but the flow continues and many more would like to make the journey.
A passport costs about $100 and for a family this is virtually impossible but it can be done with assistance and this is where we come in. All Jewish people are assisted by us to the ferry and boat ports, generally this involved helping with documentation, completion of paperwork to acquire an passport. Much documentation is lost because of the wars and the always present danger of being a Jewish person. The cost can rise from $100 to more than $300-$400 in many cases.
“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord.
Zech 2:10.
