About Shofar Foundation International
"Comfort, O comfort my people" - Isaiah 40 v 1
In November 1998 a small group of believers, with a heart that was stirred by God for the Jewish people, became the UK base to support the humanitarian work of an organisation called Chevra. Chevra began in 1984, helping Jewish people in Eastern Europe, many of whom are Holocaust and Ghetto survivors.
Based in the South East of England, the new support organisation needed a name; it was felt that the right name was SHOFAR and so Shofar Foundation International was formed and registered as a charity.
OUR OBJECTIVES ARE...
- To alleviate the poverty and life threatening situations of poor families, widows and orphans of the Former Soviet Union and other Eastern European countries, many of whom live on the verge of poverty.
- To support and deepen the already existing programs to help mitigate the adverse effects of transition from communism to democracy.
- To help supply with resources the already existing environment of community care.
To give opportunity for local people to be employed, and volunteer work within the community.
HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THIS?
- By raising funds for supporting soup kitchens helping Holocaust and Ghetto survivors, the ill, infirm and poor families, and the purchase of medical supplies.
- By helping Jewish people emigrate to Israel.
- By collecting new & nearly new clothes, shoes and bedding in the best possible condition together with household items and toiletries.
From slow beginnings the work began to develop and become more well known throughout the UK. Support comes from many different areas, churches, fellowships, prayer groups, schools, individuals and people just wanting to help others living in such poor conditions and who have suffered to much over the centuries.
Shofar's help supplies urgent aid for families in Ukraine and regular monthly support for soup kitchens.
Shofar has also helped towards the cost of x-ray equipment in Russia for use of Jewish people and helped Jewish people emigrate to Israel.

SPONSORING A CHILD
Many poor children are in desperate need of help and one way of achieving this is to sponsor a child which can be from as small an amount as
£20 a month.
You will receive a photo and details of your sponsored child together with information about his/her family background. Some of these children are diabetic, needing special aids and help for this illness
(test papers, Acometers and fine needles). Insulin can be obtained although it is not the best. Without this help they will lose limbs or even die. Your sponsorship will help all these children in need. Many children have cerebral palsy.
